Cherry Barbs in 30 Litre Biorb.

A lot of discussion saying it’s too small. Will a male Betta work in here?

Instead? Yes but remove all sharp decorations. Instead provide tall, broad leafed and floating plants for him to rest on/ under. Leave a gap for warm air above the water surface.

Definitely instead. Heard conflicting things about keeping Cherry Barbs in such a small tank so planning on rehoming. If I replaced with a Male Betta, would I have to remove the White decor, I think it looks great 😭

Yes betta like a heavily planted green scape that white scape would tear a bettas fins in no time

Looking at the photos this appears to be a 30 litre Biorb Flow, a tall narrow rectangular shape rather than a spherical biorb. But at 39 cm/15.4 inches tall, it is suitable for a betta.

Regarding plants, the problem with all biorbs is the filter. Biorbs use an undergravel filter system and the biomedium is the large rocks on the bottom of the tank. The size of the rocks make it unsuitable for plants rooted in the substrate. Floating plants would work as would plants attached to decor such as java fern and anubias - there are tall species/varieties of both and many anubias species have large round leaves.

Depending on the hardness of yuor water, it may be possible to keep one of the nano species in this tank. I'm thinking of a shoal of one of the Boraras species if you have soft water. In colouring, they look like mini cherry barbs.
Look on your water company's website for hardness. You need a number and the unit of measurement (UK companies often use units not used in fish keeping)

Yes the white decor would damage the betta's delicate fins so it will have to go. The test is to move a piece of nylon hosiery (tights) over the decoration, if the hosiery snags it is too sharp for betta.

If you are moving the cherry barb to a new tank you could use the decorations in the new set up?
