Biomax Question

Having a bag of biomax sitting in the tank, will it still grow beneficial bacteria, or does it have to be in a hob ?

It will very, very slowly... If you place it infront of a powerhead or pump so water is going through it at a constant rate it will speed up the process, but as long as there is mature media somewhere in the tank seeding process is very slow

I have a AQ20 on this with mature bacteria, i just got the extra biomax from a 50, and i have a powerhead right above it.

What are you planning on doing with the biomax?  Doing it that way can take weeks/months to seed it fully, and even then the bacteria wont change, it just spreads out more.  If you seed that bag and remove it from the tank to put in another filter then your Aquaclear wont have enough bacteria anymore and suffer a mini cycle

I was gonna put the 50 in my main which is were im seeding right now, then put the 20 in my other tank, i'm in no rush, but i don't want to mess up the cycle in my main, so now i'm rethinking it.

How many fish are currently in the tank?  I would just take 1/3 of the media in the AC 20 ( I know, its very little ) and put it in the bottom of the 50 ( is it an AC50? ) and do daily partial waterchanges.  It doesnt take long to build the colony once its already established and if you have hardy fish, even better
