Ok, the deal with all these bacterial additives is that they provide a startup culture of bacteria that needs to be present for the Nitrogen cycle to take place.
All of these products contain Nitrosomonas bacteria (Ammonia to Nitrite conversion) and Nitrobacter bacteria (Nitrite to Nitrate conversion). What they don't contain (
unless specifically for saltwater) is Nitrosococcus bacteria (Ammonia to Nitrite conversion) and Nitrococcus bacteria (Nitrite to Nitrate conversion) which are the equivalent saltwater forms.
If you add a freshwater culture to a saltwater tank you are only going to kill the bacteria, this in turn produces Ammonia which will feed the bacteria already present in the tank, which is why you start to see the cycle start and presume it is due to the culture you added.........you may as well add Ammonia
In short they are a waste of money and you'd do better spending the same amount of money on a chunk of live rock. Yes, the chunk will be tiny but guaranteed it will contain a lot more live bacteria of the right type.
