Does anyone else have a problem with these causing micro-bubbles in the tank, making the water not look as nice? I have never used them before with my other tanks, but I got it for free and I really don't like the micro-bubbles. I thought at first the filter just wasn't doing a good job clearing the water so I replaced the 1 carbon filter insert with a sponge, bio-balls, and filter wool. Few days later no improvement. Now I am pretty sure the only other thing it could be is the bio-wheel.

What I am concerned about now is if I should take it off or not. I would like to get rid of it to see if it stops the micro-bubbles, but I don't want to mess up the bacteria in the filter. What is the best way to go about this?

They will if the water level isn't right up to the filter overflow. If it is then it might be sucking a bit of air in through the intake.
