This is Bilbo. He’s in a 20 gallon with two Cory cats. (I will get more sometime)
I was wondering what gender he is. He was sold as male, but I’m not so sure. Also, what type of tail does he have (crowntail, delta, etc.) And what type is he (dragon, black orchid, etc.) I put pictures of when I first got him and what he looks like now, if that helps. Thanks! :fish:

While I’m here, is there any food you’d recommend? Bilbo is SUPER picky. He will nibble on bio gold, turns his nose up at Wardley, and won’t touch Omega one.

In my eyes he looks a bit like a male. Have you tried feeding him micro pellets a small amount of bloodworm?

If he is picky then I would suggest giving him live food, such as; Small Bloodworms, Daphnia, Brine Shrimp, Tubifex, Glassworms (mosquito larvae), Copepods, and Mysis Shrimp. Always make sure it's fresh and feed in small amounts.

I'd also recommend getting live plants as it will benefit your water, my Betta loves getting her nose in amongst the plant life, especially the floating stuff.

He looks more of a she. Zooming in on the last picture, it looks as if I can see an egg spot, white in colour rather than dark. Can anyone else see that? S/he looks a standard plakat, short finned betta. From the pictures it looks like s/he has caught their fins on the fake plants and shredded the ends rather than them being the spines of a crowntail. You may want to keep an eye on that to make sure it doesn't develop into fin rot. Regular water changes will keep it from infection. I agree with the above with food and live plants. I feed my bettas a variety of food, using live food as more of a treat than day to day diet. They mostly consume either repashy (which is a fresh, powder food) and Hikari Bio Gold pellets, which you've said he's not massively keen on. Try soaking his food in Garlic Guard, @Deanasue recommended it to me once and my fish go mad for it :)

Should’ve named those 2 Cories, Frodo and Sam

I just remembered, he used to looooooooove some kind of micro pellet... He ate it all and I can’t remember the name! Argh!
