I know this sounds completely stupid but i have had a Hagen duo 800 for about a month now!It has 6 platys,6 neon tetras and 2 gouramis,but i am wanting also some cichilids,so i was wondering if someone can give me a website were i can find a cheap second hand aquarium,i know it sounds stupid but always have to aim higher,but i would like to say that my lfs is rubbish the aquariums are too expensive,so is their anyone that can give me an idea of were i can get a big aquarium(preferably about 25-30gl)with nothing just the tank

the only website i can think of is ebay or on here in buy and sell section but i would put adds in the paper for used aquariums you can get very large aquariums for very cheep

I just posted a similar post about if ebay was a good place to buy tanks!!

I've been through every page of ebay that has tanks about 3 times now and there was only a handful of that size, that's what I was looking for too.

I ended up going to Petco and buying a 29 gal. for 49.99, nothing but tank!! I got the filter, $22 and heater $16, and pump with bubble wall $12 but I forgot a stupid LID!!! I'm going to set it up as soon as I get the stupid lid I know is gonna cost as much as the stupid TANK!!!

I'm just mad. I spent $108.00 total (including tax) for everything. I sort of like to pick out my own stuff and not get those kits that come with all of this crappy stuff. Besides, the kits were all $99 (which would have been $108 with tax) and that was for the 20 gallons and I got a 30 just by picking out the stuff myself. But, of course I have to get the dumb LID!!! I guess $108 isn't bad seeing as how I would have spent AT LEAST $50 on shipping alone if I would have won one of those tanks I bid on at ebay.com. But I'm glad I didn't because anything could have happened to it during shipping. And how do you really know you are going to get what you just spent a small fortune on!??

I don't know if any "stores" (or ebay sellers, for that matter) will ship glass tanks.

Which makes sense to me, because it's probably not worth it. You'd have to have it pretty well-packed, and it still stands a chance of getting broken, so the shipper might want to insure it, which brings the shipping fees up near the cost of the tank itself, and .... bleh.

The few times I've scanned ebay or aquabid.com, most of the tanks are labelled "pickup only", or they're acrylic "kits", like an Eclipse system.

So I'd think you're sort of stuck with buying one locally, either from a store (perhaps another store, that's within driving distance, Sasha?), or through a classified ad.

Just a thought for those shopping. Ordering online from petco and petsmarts shops are almost always cheaper and they charge very little for shipping. Yes, they only ship acrylic tanks, but some of them are pretty nice at a decent price.

Looks like just a lid (no light) would be less than $20.

Also, another rumor I've heard, but not confirmed. Supposedly Costco is selling the Eclipse Hex5 system for $20! Not a Costco member so I can't confirm.


There's always a better price out there somewhere, I make it my goal to look for it . Hope some of this was helpful.

I am most certainly going to buy one of those glass tops. I have a light dealy already, I'm taking one of the 2 on my 55 gallon. I will only need one light on the 55 now because my Silver Dollars and "new" Chocolate Pleco are in there and they don't like a lot of light anyhow. So all I will really need is that glass top. I wonder how I know if it is the right size! Then it's off to saving for a canopy for it

I got one of my tanks 19US courierd to me. www.trimar.co.uk ship glass tanks accross the UK but I find their tanks expensive.

You might also want to check out this ebay seller "twinoaks02". I just bought a 240gal from him. He will ship to anywhere or he will arrange to meet you at a show. I don't know how much shipping will be because I picked mine up at his factory. He builds all size tanks from 10 gal to 300 gal. His prices are reasonable.
