Hi

After my betta got sick with white spot after adding 3 new fish i began to treat him with white spot treatment

my water levels have always been 0ppm with the betta and where fine for a few days after adding the new fish

my water levels have spiked

ammonia - 1.0ppm
Nitrite - 0.50ppm
Nitrate - 20ppm knocking onto 40ppm

is this normal when using white spot meds or have i had a total crash?

please help

hi there,

your levels have most likely spiked due to the addition of new fish rather than the whitespot treatment. your ammonia levels are dangerous. do a huge water change, taking out as much water as you can (leaving just enough water for the fish to swim upright), de-chlorinating and temperature matching the new water to be added to the tank. repeat daily water changes until your levels return to normal.

good luck,

L :good:

what i don't understand is that i added the fish there only tetras so there tiny tested 2 days after putting them in water, levels were 0ppm, 6 days later water level still the same 8 days later i notice the white spot on the betta and started treating on day 9 its been 4 days since adding the first dose of white spot treatment and the level have spiked

there wouldn't be a delay like for the levels to spike like that would there?

and i have done the water change a good 80-90% of it

and my water levels are back down to 0ppm
