Next year,(hopefully), I will be creating a pond approximately 75x150 feet. The area already sits wet till midsummer. It is only about 3ft above water table,(I live 100 ft from lake Huron), so I am not sure how this will affect me.
Does this mean the bottom of my pond will hold water real well, or diminish back into the water table easier.
I really do not want to try to buy a liner this size, or piece one together. Seems like some people dig a big hole, fill it with water, and they are done. I know it can't be this easy.
It is already in a low area, nicely wooded. We kind of have to leave it as lowland for drainage off the rest of our property.
So we thought that it might as well be attractive and serve a couple of purposes,(can you smell the trout frying?). :)

Hey... im not a guro in this area..But it seems like all you have to do is dig it out 3 foot deeper! If your only 3 feet above the water table...Then your already to hit natural water during the dig. But like i said.. Im not the guy to give answers. Just seems obvios to me a deep hole would fix you up. Sorry I cant help.

hey,,,,we have done very simular to you,in the corner of our property, first of all we dug a small hole(6ft wide,6ft deep) and found the water table to be at 2.9ft.we left the hole for a couple of weeks, and found that the water level did not change that much.so now we have dug the new pond 45ft by 30ft.i also think that your soil type may play a big part in water leakage, mine is heavy clay, and once we dug the hole we compacted it to form a hard barrier,we completed the pond nearly two years ago and so far have had no problems, just the seasonal rise and falls of the water table.and the odd water top up. :)

Dal, at this point, are you able to keep the level of water above the water table then? You top off comment has me confused :) You see, I lost my tinfoil hat the other day :D
