what other plecs grow big other than sailfin and common?

thats for if i ever win the lottery and get to build a massive tank. (it'll never happen, but we can dream!)

There's loads of Plecs that reach over a Foot long ( I guess you'd call that large ) but finding them can be a problem. In my local Maidenhead Aquatics they've got a couple of L25 scarlet plecs which grow to around 17", a VERY nice fish http://www.planetcatfish.com/images/full/l...sp(l025)/17.jpg

But at £70 for a 4" specimen won't be coming to my home.

wow, that one is stunning! *adds to mythical shopping list for when i'm rich*

A lot of the L-name Panaques do get big. It's usually harder finding the ones who stay small. :p

*stares blankly*
i'm not clued up yet, whats a panaque? i've seen them mentioned loads. whats the difference, if any, of a panaque and a common plec?

Panaque is a new classification for many of the former L-Numbered plecos. Plecos and Panaques are identical in many ways. It's sort of like the difference between a dog and a wolf but more complicated.

Panaques are ones like the royal plec. They tend to have very chunky bodies, they are vegetarians and eat wood as part of their diet, so they make quite a bit of mess. When I get my mega-tank (do they have aquariums in heaven? don't see any chance of it here on earth), I would love a royal plec. Or even better a breeding pair. Or a pair of royal farlowellas- not as massive, but they look SO good.

Good lcuk trying - as far as I've read Royals have never been bred in captivity. I may be wrong though.

Royals do grow big, but they also grow very very slowly - I've been told an inch a year is average.

Well, I was thinking more of the afterlife- don't think I'll ever get to try it in this world
