Big Oscar questions

[Double Down]

Just sitting here about to go to bed and I noticed in the 55 gal setup I have my 10" red oscar in, he is scoping up the gravel with his mouth and spitting it out somewhere else. Any ideas? He/she is also chasing the fish away from this area if they get close.

Maybe he just wanted a peaceful bed

Cichlids do that often...my mbuna do it all the time...make sure the rock is secure and wont collapse on ur fish....when u add rocks always push down on them...that secures it

they do it sometimes for mating..and sometimes i guess out of habit

u probably dont have another 10 inch oscar in ur tank so he isnt doing it for mating
