Got two koi eight months ago (two inches) which have tripled in size. They were in a 35 gallon tank but I obviously need to get a bigger one. What size and should I donate them to a pond where they'll be happier? I change the water frequently and they love my other half and I -- at least are playful and energetic. But I know 35 gallons isn't enough and if they get biger -- yowza. Can anyone help?

Also, has anyone had luck with Clams -- maybe a few of them will help uncloud he water.

Thanks.

Thats unlucky, at least you want to do whats best for the fish..well done

where abouts are you?

Great article by the way ryan

I'll try to find a Buddhist Temple near me (Manhattan, Tribeca/Chinatown area) and see if I can donate so we can visit. These may be a mated pair: "she's" gorgeous full bellied and "he's" slimmer with different fins. Both white w/ variegated spots ("hers" red/and orange, "his" black and orange)... if not a mated pair, they make a good couple whatever they may be.

I know I could never raise their fry as my tank isn't big enough even for goldfish fry to survive. Even thought of fedexing them to a San Diego friend with a koi pond; but I'll try NYC first. I've shipped cross country successfully before but love these fish too much to freak them out.

Years ago, I had 2 half inch comets who grew to 10 inches and 7 inches. My habit of big fish. I dreaded this but figured as much. Will update when I set this to rights.

Thanks again for your kindness and expertise, this is such a great site.

Go on Yahoo and get the web site for the American Koi Club or Society. There's probably a club near you, you could then get a contact person's phone # and someone might be able to come to your residence to help rescue the koi... -_-
