hi, i have 3 tanks up and running, 1 is 48"x15"x12" this has malwis in. 2 is 36"x18"x12" this has some haps in, and i have a juwel rekord 96 and i was wondering if this would be big enough to start a nano reef, there is nothing in it at moment just coral sand, rocks. its had no chemicals in whatsoever and its about 7 weeks old. any ideas would be gratefuly recieved. thanks.

If I divide by 4, that gives me 24G's. That's a good size for a nano tank. Start reading the pins above...check out the books in the Realm of Knowledge, and we'll get you up and running. It's critical to get a good fund on knowledge on marine keeping first.

Are the contents that you mentioned dry? or ...in SW? aragonite sand? LR? what kind of rocks?

Oh..almost forgot.... :hi: SH

hi steelhealr, thanks for the welcome. the tank in question is actually filled with only fw and some limestone rocks. i was going to use it as a grow out tank for malawi fry. but a friend of mine has got a 5 foot marine tank and this has fed my appetite for sw. Neil

Start from scratch. You'll need live rock and aragonite sand. Start your researching...and post a plan here...we'll all go over it and help you get up and running. For a 24G, think about what you envision your tank as....FOWLR? reef? low lighting with softies? challenging tank with LPS and SPS (higher lighting and excellent water husbandry techniques)? SH

hi, sssooooooo blooming much!!    , will read and research first, then plan, then post with ideas, then wait for feedback and comments, can't wait.

It can be a lot, but it can also be rewarding in the end. You're on the right track, keep it up

Worth it though, I've been planning to start a nano for about the last 6 months!

Now I finally have a tank with a couple of crabs and a few snails but it's worth it already. COMPLETELY different to keeping FW.

The more amount of time you take to plan your nano reef, the higher the chances are that it will be a successful tank. Trust me on this one. The BIGGEST mistake people make with nano reefs......is rushing and lack of patience. SH
