Ok, i got my male in the 10g and he has been there for almost a week, i floated a 2 liter with my female inside yesterday for about thrity minuts before releaseing her for the male to chase. after 4 hours i had to re vase her because the male gave he a nasty gash in her dorsal fin and i wouldn't be able to sleep if i kept worrying about how he was treating her. she has been in the vase all day now and i juts released her again. the male has obviously been going nuts all night and he look exhausted.

a little backround on my male, hes lazy, hat, and hates working out (flareing). hes the betta equalevant of mike moore and is easyily worn out. when do i know thats its time to give him a rest? i know spawning is very hard on the fish but i dont wanna kill or seriously injure him.

at the moment, his gills are going crazy and he swims a bit awkwardly, hasn't been working on a nest yet, we're working on that issue but at present i just need to make sure hes safe ;)

I don't know if he should be pulled, unless you are for sure your betta looks beat. You know his normal behavior better than anyone. What is your spawning tank setup? If you are too worried to leave your female in the tank overnight, and you don't want your male to get tired flaring at her all night, then put her in during the day, and pull her at night. Some males do not build nests until they are spawning with the female, so, that's possible. Give her some places to hide and escape advances enough not to be killed, but some aggresion and torn fins should be normal and okay. Java moss is good because the females can get through it easily and the males are too large with too much finnage to follow easily.

thanx i think i might try that, my set up is like this:

10g tank
1 heater
1 bubble wand
1 cup

water:

75-80 degrees F'
conditioner
salt
,and a little melafix because my mail had a very light case of fin rot ( when i mean light i mean just on the tips of hit tail and it cleared up over night ) i keep teh water ver clean, i syphon out 2g of water every day

i may divide the tannk in 2 and let the male rest but still allow the male to view the girl but not get to her.

Make sure that if you are using the 10 gallon to spawn in, it's not filled all the way to the top. It should be about 1/2 full. Otherwise male will get too tired picking up eggs. Also, the heater temp you posted 75-80deg needs to be stable. If it jumps up and down the fry will die. It helps if you put newspaper around the tank so they can't see out or you. You need a tight fitting hood, or lid. I have a hood on mine and put plastic wrap over the tank under the hood. You need it to be humid in there like their enviornment. You'll see the tank sides covered in condensation. There should be no wind drafts able to get in the tank.

there are no eggs or fry yet but when there is i will have it all stabilized, iv divided the tank so they can c each other but not get ripped up, im gunna keep it that way for a while and just keep them happy. iv also added indian almond leafs, the water lvl is not all the way up but ur right i almost forgot to drain it down to 1/2, iv been told a couple times about that. thanx for teh help! :D
