I'd get a 6x2x2 tank then you can house any of the species for a long time. Should be dimly lit, they prefer hiding places but they will quite happily bunch togheter for secutiry if not many hiding places.
Tanks mates should be anything to big to be considered food and not aggressive.
the smalest gets to around 12inch after some time the biggest is aournd the3 ft mark.
Split into two types upper and lower jaw, low jaw being the larger of the species.
They grow quick, have a nice set of teeth and a good sense of smell. Poor eyesight so cannot be kept in with really good feeders or they may end up going hungry.
Easy to sex the species by looking at the anal fin
price varies from ~£5 for something like senegalus to £300 - £400 for Bichir Bichir and most likely into the thousands for the plat varieties of things like bichir bichir.
