So the question, which combination of bichir should I get, there is another species palmas but I haven't seen those in my LFS though i suspect they could order them in.

I have a 90g tank, L48"xW18"H24"
Other tank inhabitats
2-sajica
4-severums
6-rainbow cichlids
2-bristlenose plecs
1-paradise fish
2-kissing gourami
2-parrot cichlids (hybrids)

Also i'm still undecided on the colour form if I get a senegal I think an albino one would look good though, any thoughts on this?

Cheers

hrm... can't advise on species really, but as for color choice? if you've got gold severums, then i'd go for the albino. the albino senegal has a really nice *sharp* look that would complement brightly colored tankmates(such as sajica, gold severums, & paradise fish) quite well.

however, if you've got green severums, then i'd go for the standard because the albino would be a little too harsh a contrast with the more "natural" colors dominating your tank.

(man, i should have my own design show :p )

I've got 2 gold and 2 green so what do i do for that ? lol

What would you call the show ?

:good:

all birchirs are fantastic!you wont be disappointed whatever you get.i think 1 delhezi and 1 albino then you have a variety lol :hey:

Well the greens are bigger but there's not alot of difference probably no more than 1" from largest to smallest.

lol, i'll be tunning in for that show.

my brother has a tank growing young bichirs in it. he had at one point

2x albino senegal bichirs ( polypeterus senegalus )
1x armored bichir ( polypeterus delhezi )
and 1x tiger bichir ( polypeterus endlicheri endlicheri )

now minus the tiger. the senegals seem better in a pair. one is slightly larger and they are very sociable with eachover and playfull. they were white but have now gone a lovely golden yellow colour with pink eyes. the delhezi is more flattened in the face and has longer spikes on his top of the body. he stalks about on his own, but i supose if i had two i would get the characteristic bichir behavior. they go together well and all feed the same. as i voted. i think one armored and one senegal :)

I went for 2 delhezi, too. mainly cos if you have the room for 2, and can get hold of them, then why not?
also, if you wanted to, you could watch their breeding/mating behaviours, if that is possable.?

Just making sure but either senegals or delhezi's won't eat any of my fish correct?

I think i'll go with one delhezi and one albino senegal but i may get 2 senegals :S

Cheers everyone for your opinions.

I would go for two delhizi's but then i think that senegals are more active in general as well as delhizi's can grow a LOT bigger than senegals.

I didn't think they grow to much bigger? Could you say what you all say is the maximum size i got 12" for the senegal and 14" for the delhezi but wild sizes are alot bigger.

:good:

I thought that delhezis got about 16"...
Not sure though...

I think what ringhams saying is a good point, as you may enjoy the more "active" senegals...
