I know fire eels and bichir eat prawn muscle and whitebait but wondered if anybodys know where i can get this from online ?

not sure if my lfs sell it and don't wanna buy them and not have any food for them.

also they eat earth worms right so is tht just general worms out the garden ? (sorry if i being dumb)

Thanks.

Most lfs sells whitebait and muscle Maidenhead aquatics do if you live near one or an get to one. As for prawn Iceland sell 500g bags for £2 thats where I get mine from. Dont get earthworms from your garden I wouldnt bother feeding them earthworms just stick to prawn and muscle.

i take it the prawns from iceland are frozen ones ?

yep. Dont get an ornate mate.

nah i won't.

i spoke to them on the phone and they can order fish in so gonna get them to get me and armoured bichir aka delhzi (sp?)

then not sure what else i want a big plec too seen one at another lfs just gotta remember to right down the name and do some research :D

You need to keep an eye on the plecs with the birchirs as they have been known to suck on the slime coat of the birchir but mine never did just keep an eye on them. What are you doing for middle swimming fish?? I would get a shoal of silver dollars like 5 and then look at some bigger sa cichlids do you like oscars?

not sure yet but i'll look into them in the week :D

my bichirs like asda freshwater prawn (both frozen and fresh)
they also like crab sticks, sometimes called fish sticks these days.

their main diet is a mix of mysis, bloodworm and hikari sinking carnivorous pellets

Hi, we are getting a Senegal Bichir soon and I have been looking for places to buy prawns etc first. All the prawns in Asda/Tesco/Iceland etc seem to be salted - in varying degrees usually the ingredients are 98% Prawn, 2% Salt.

Will this be a problem? (I'm thinking it would be) Any ideas where to get unsalted prawns? I am going to ask on the fresh fish counter at Tesco and at my local market but if anyone knows for sure about the salt/places in England, pref North West, that sell unsalted prawns please let me know.

thanks

asda do sell freshwater prawns, often nowhere near their ocean prawns
ask a member of staff to help you if you can't find them
this is what you are looking for

£0.96 for 200G

Those asda 'no frill's' prawns are what i feed, go down a treat..... and my dog keeps opening the freezer to nick them.

Asda also do a mix of prawn, mussel and squid which i sometimes get for variety (although my eel tells me that im trying to poison him offering him mussel..... he is a fussy sod).

Cheers, Thanks for that!

I actually got two Senegal Bichir today (£5.75 for 2 at LFS, couldn't resist) they are busy investigating my newly cycled 140l (4ft*12in*15in) as the sole occupants at the moment. They are only about 6cm so look a bit lost. They have wolfed down some blood worm though so think they are settling in ok. :D

be careful feeding mammalian flesh/offal etc to fish, many can't digest it fully
