My black ghost is my favourite fish. Just now i looked at him and he has a big greenish mouldy thing on his ummmmm neck. What is this? What Can I do?

(he is with a firemouth juvie and a pleco)

:( HELP

Can you give some more details...

-Tank size
-parameters
-how long have these fish been together
-any recent changes
-what does your maintenence look like

The more info that we have the more we can help

He's only a juvie so hees in a 20 gal tank which he has been in since i got him andhe loves it there. I feed him bloodworms and flakes the firemouth is new but seems very timid so i dont think its a problem and i had a baby oscar with him for a while but he died of constipation. Ummmmmmmmmm i have a top-of-the-line power filter and a air stone hooked up. I chnaged the water 2 days ago.

here we go again.....................

Ghost knives are very sensitive fish. The tank is overstocked even if they are babies. The firemouth may seem docile in the day, but you never know what is going on at night. I would guess that he got beat up and has developed some kind of infection. That's the best that I can do without having seen the fish.

he is now looking very bad. He is lying on his side, i no its quitew normal for him, but he normally moves his fins when i turn the light off. I might take him to the lfs for a better home. I think he needs a bigger tank :-(

he would need a bigger tank, unless you wanted a stunted fish!

Hopefully he can make a full recovery.

Maybe you could try get a pic of him for us?

i got a pic but my dad left the thing that lets u transfer the dig. cam's pics onto the computer at home so i'll have it on tomozz along with alot of tank pics! I told my lfs that i'd giv em the fish so i'll give it to them when i go get my next firemouth.

He was my fave fish and BGKs are, WITHOUT DOWT, THE COOLEST FISH EVER!!! 8)

Hiya

Im really sorry you have to get rid of your fish. Im dreading the day I have to give away my lovely plecostomus. You obviously like your fish very much so Im sorry he got a sickness! Why not ask the lfs to put him in a display tank? Obviously they cant sell him with a wound so they'll have to clear that up first but most places would put it in a display tank? Just a thought!
