Cant find alot on the actual behaviour of this lovely fish.

I bought one this week, very nice! He has taken up a spot to the right hand side of my tank where a bit of rock leans against the glass and makes a natural cave.

Sometimes he stops "swimming" and lays down for a bit, then when you approach the tank he will start his wriggly swimming again...

Is this normal? Do they "rest" from their constant fin movements from time to time?

Think im going to have to end up getting a 6x2x2ft for this graceful fish, provided it doesnt die like the rest of them that came in the same batch.

Good, im just getting freaked out, because the other 7 of them we got in on the delivery died and i want to prove to the guys at the fish shop what a great fish keeper i am that this one hasnt died... or just how lucky I am...

Yep perfectly normal, must take alot of enegy constantly moving a fin like that!! well worth 40winks!!

it still scares me when my 9" guy lays down though as he decides to stay for a while after i enter.

likes attacking the syphoning tube aswell!! quite annoying really as I'm scared he#ll get sucked onto the end.

I have had 3 BGK (2 died and one is going strong at 5") he has taking a liking to sleep on his side while logged under one of my plants. The first time I encountered this I was freaked out because of the loss of the other 2 but as soon as I approached the tank "it" was swimming wildly. They are great fish, but be careful not to house them with "fin nippers" because you have just signed "it's" death certificate. They can't handle stress very well and need lots of hiding places. They are nocturnal and like to feed later in the day when they awaken from their slumber. I wouldn't trade mine for the world.
