bettas

I actually tested this, for a friend who wanted to put a betta in with his rams.

Bad idea.
Rams like to nip things. Bettas are vulnerable.

I took the betta out before anything happened, but I'm pretty sure that, if I left him in there, my rams would've ripped his fins apart.

warr40 has rams with his betta
the rams did nothing
the betta got his fis nibbled off by the key whole though

While I agree that is not a smart idea to risk putting a betta with a ram, I must say that I have a male ram in my 120 gallon and also have 12 female bettas. The male ram will chase them off when they come too close to his territory but he never nibbles at anyone and is rather peaceful. I keep the temp at around 80 F and everyone seems to be happy.

I am thinking the reason why it has worked out for me because I have such a large tank and the female bettas could easily get away from the ram if they had to.

there is nothing to nip on a short finned fish, and they swim faster so they cant catch up. i dont think putting a long finned fish with any fish that is known to nip or has nipped is a good idea
