I have read here on the forum that the most common plants for Bettas are riccia and Java moss. I also read something about a "Betta Bulb." My internet search has not returned anything. Anyone have a Betta Bulb? What kind of plant is that?

Also, which plants does your betta like best? Right now I have some swords and it's not working out too well. The leaves are deteriorating and they're growing out of the tank. The bettas pretty much avoid them. :dunno:

i have 2 giant hydros gorwing in my fishtank and my bettas and ghost shrimp seem to love them :D the betta likes to swim through the big leaves once in a while and the ghost shrimps liket os it on the leaves and nibble on it a little :)

a betta breeder friend of mine gave me a bunch of some floating plant that looks like spinach salad ;) all our bettas love the stuff, it's very hardy and just keeps growing and the way the roots grow towards the bottom and hang just rocks my world ;) anyone know what it might be called by the way?

Duckweed?
sounds better than "spinach salad" ;)

Can I ask, what is needed to keep plants in an aquarium? My tanks aren't big as you can see in my sig, but I thought a small live plant would be nice for my guys.

Mine love my banana lilies. I'm not sure of the scientific name, but they're like mini water lilies. My male likes to build nests under the lily pads.

Mine hang out in riccia

Is duckweed a low light plant cause i dont have any lights with my tank? This plants sounds cool cause the bettas can swim and hide between the roots.

Bird of Prey you would need a low light plant. I'm not that up on plants but riccia would do fine in your 1 gallons.

Ok. And what all goes into taken care of a plant? I mean, I've kept a garden up, but I have no clue as to what to do with aquarium plants.

Different plants have different requirements, some plants like Java Moss, Java Fern, Riccia, Duckweed (I avoid this at all costs) will grow no matter what you do, Lol. These plants require very little light and will grow in almost any circumstance. Water Sprite is almost as easy although I think needs some lighting, although not alot. I keep Java Moss in all my small tanks/barracks, the Bettas love to rest in it. I keep a hugh piece of Water Sprite in my 45 gallon growout tank and the Juvis love swimming through it, resting in it and the smaller ones can hide in it from their bigger, aggressive siblings. I also keep the Java Moss in the spawn tanks as the females can hide in it. As for the Duckweed, I stay away from this because once you have it you will never get rid of it, it's called DuckWEED for a reason, haha. Some people use it, but most regret it afterwards as it just gets EVERYWHERE! It gets in the way, it's just a pain in the butt, especially during water changes and cleanings.

Check out my sig -- Beta prefers to linger between the leaves of a tall plant, so he prefers the Amazon sword. The tall Java fern is also quite tall now and leafy enough that he's paying attention to it.
