Has anyone had a success story keeping a betta in a community aquarium? I tried twice, around a year ago, and in both cases the betta died within weeks/months. They seemed to be very sensitive to small changes in water quality, moreso than other fish I kept. I was just wondering if anyone had adtually done this successfully?

It can be done.....but bettas do not like strong currents and you need to avoid the faster swimming "nippy" fish. Personally I haven't had my bettas in with anything else because I'm more worried about them bothering other fish =)

You may want to check google or one of the pinned topics here to see about compatiable fish with bettas =)

Good Luck! :good:

With my very first betta who lived for about 6 years, he lived in in community aquarium for some of his life, and he got along great. But then my corwntail he doesn't get along with anybody, he hates everybody in my house but me and the cat :p . So it just depends on the betta.

i kept my vt in a 2ft community with 2 females! and they all got along great. Then in my 3ft tank i had a plakat male with the 2 females and that worked well.I had to take the plakat out because he kept getting into the filter!

i added a veiltail betta to my community a while back and he was chasing ever fish in their,i bought a devider and gave him his own 5 gallon along with a few ADF and now hes great.i then decided to buy another betta to go in my community at the other side of the devider and he was just fine,he lives there now, in my other tank my 4 females live happily together and get along perfect.my friend bought a 15 gallon tank and placed 2 males together, yes 2 males she was very underknowledged(after cycling,etc...)and they are living great at the moment, to my suprise. she bought a devider just incase anything sparks off.when she first bought them they both had fin dammage, and looked like females:-( poor bettas.both males are veiltails and one is red and one is blueish,(wonder why she chose them?)

i keep my beta in a community and hes fine the only problem id him seing his own reflection on the glass
