I personally think that the petsores should have a row of about 4 tanks diveded into 2 or 3(depending on size) and devide it using plastic sheets (not clear) and keep a betta on its own in each division.

I think it is horrible the way some shops sell them, in with fin nippers or in tiny dirty cups or even smaller bags.

We should make a letter and send it to every pet shop selling bettas!!!!!!

But they can afford to leave them in dad conditions or wit fin nippers???

I know wot i wud do if i was there manager!!!

They shud treat bettas wit respect or not at all!!!!!! :grr:

Yuppers, any betta lover would agree with you. So far petstores are gradually caring for the bettas. At some stores like the one i've been to, they've double the jar size and began cardboarding each of them.

I know at the nearest decent fish shop (not pets at home) they keep bettas in 5 gallon tanks with another species of fish, eg. tetras. I haven't seen any with nipped fins, I was on a special lookout today, couldn't buy anything (blooming nitrite) but I saw a  worthy VT. Nothing special but loverly.

My lfs keeps some of them in little cups which hang on the front, inside their tanks, and others are given the run of their 30 gallon tanks.

While this wouldn't be the best thing for the long run, they are all usually sold within the week. At least it gives them an opportunity to have clean water flow through their containers, although there is not enough room for them to swim freely.

These lovely little fish are so happy to be sold and have nice big tanks to swim about in. :D

I wouldn`t think Petstores could afford for every 2 bettas like that. They sell out pretty quickly and the only shame is if the customer keeps it in a little container.
