is it better to house a male betta in a community tank or a female betta?
(my community tank currently has zebra danio, neon tetras, and 2 bamboo shrimp{its a tank of 30gallons})

It depends on what else is going in that tank, but usually females do better in communities.

Bettas are great community fish, infact they are community fish. Ive kept males in with pretty much everything community so far, last one jumped the tank one night after I forgot to close the lid before bed, one before it was in a community for 5 years not one issue.

Females can get just as territorial as the males FYI. I got 3 angels and plan on another betta for my 55 as soon as its up and running.

Males are worse in a tank by themselves. they dont live as long and they get meaner with no social interaction, fish are like dogs.

My only two male bettas each live in a community situation. The red male is in my 120 Noah's ark tank while the blue male lives in an endler breeding tank. I am not breeding the endlers for cash so the few fry that he eats doesn't bother me.
