just wondered if my lil chap is ok not had him long and never kept one before so does this behaviour sound abnormal to any of you betta fans?

he swims around for 5 mins or so keeps goin up for air(i think) then he either goes straight to the bottom and just lyes(spelling?) there not doin much, or he lays on a plant after about 30 seconds he springs up goes for air then does it again about 5 mins later.

Is this normal? Is he merely resting?

Any help much appreciated just want whats best for my lil man ;)

Cheers

Yes, this is normal.
Bettas are they kinda of fish like gouramis who actually use air.
Look and see if he has any physical sickness?

him going up for air doesnt worry me its the laying on things that worrys me. the only thing he gets up for is air n food.

he has unfortunatly got white spot which i am currently treating with interpet, could this behaviour be due to white spot?

Every newbie to bettas has this question! Even I did! They come from areas with really poor water quality so the only place to get air is to come to the surface.
They live in rice paddies and that where the water quality is very poor - don't worry about it.

They are quite lazy - they always laze around. Interpet is fantastic for whitespot - it cures mine. I wouldn't worry about his behaviour.
You will get more answers to this question if you post in the betta forum.

i would love to post in the betta forum but for some reason it says i havent got permission so i have to ask all my questions here

thanx for your help i worry about him

I take it the betta is still in the 5g with the cories and neons? Has it recovered from ich? I'd guess its a combo of stress, possibly bad water conditions and being cramped.

minus the neons now, minus the ich now and hes stopped doing it now prob just a lazy day i dunno
