What a great sign that would be - a picture of a fish leaning on a shovel.

If I put a betta on my desk at work, would any of the radiation emitted by the computer monitor affect him in any way?

I've not exactly got a large desk, and I've managed to have a shift about, and got a space where the printer used to be (the printers now on the floor, next to the bin), so now I want to make my desk pretty by giving a betta a home there.

At weekends, he'll come home with me (I work a short distance from my house, so it wouldn't be too much stress for him)

doubt it would have any effect.....well i hope not as I'm sat infront of one for most of my life........

I wouldn't take hime home at the weekend either. Just leave him alittle food to cover the saturday and then use the sunday as a day of fasting. Should work well.

I just brought my Rusty to work yesterday. Its a good thing my office is open 7 days a week, even though I work 5 days, I'll leave instructions for the girl that works weekends to feed my Rusty...tomorrow will be my first day away from him...I feel the emotions already... . It hink you should do as The_Gilly says...and dont worry about him, he'll be fine.

EDIT: I love the white betta in your avatar...is that the betta you're talkign about. He's stunning!

I did have a white crown the same as my avatar, although it's not him in the picture. He died when his tank mate jumped over the divider - a good couple of inches above the water, when I took the lid off to feed them. :-(

I work in a Vauxhall dealership, and I don't really trust the salesmen with the fish about, but I can lock the office if need be.

I've got a fish tank next to the TV in my bedroom, and the fish in there don't seem to be affected by the readiation from that, so perhaps they will be ok. Cheers people.

I have my crowntail very close to my TV in my living room, he doesnt seem affected in any way.

 You'll love having a betta at the office. Hunter has only been here a week and he's already a part of the "team".

I worried about weekends too, and I live about 25 miles from where I work. We work 5 days one week, and 4 the next (9 hour days) so every other week we have a three day weekend. But I felt it would stress him more to take him home every long weekend. I am going to feed him extra on Thursdays and then throw a frozen shelled pea in before I leave and let him pick on that and see how it works. Otherwise I'll invest in a weekend feeder.

I stressed the first night I left him overnight wondering if he was scared and lonely. (I've got to get another betta here to keep him company.... right? :hey: )

What exactly do you keep in with a betta when it's on your desk at work?

I've heard African Dwarf Frogs are good, but they seem to be in very short supply around here.

I don't want the little guy getting arsey when he hasn't got anyone to 'play' with. He's in a divided 4 gal with another male betta at the moment, and they spend a lot of time (unsurprisingly) keeping each other occupied

I have 4 betta boys on my desk here at work - all in separate tanks.
They really don't seem to mind being here on the weekends - I leave them at 5 pm on Friday and don't see them again until 8 am on Monday. (sometimes I have snuck out here to feed them and visit on a saturday or sunday, but that's not the norm usually) The first time I left little Amos alone for the weekend, I was positive I'd come back Monday morning to find him dead, either from starvation or boredom. He was swimming his laps just fine on Monday morning when I rounded the corner!

I've been keeping bettas here at work with me for almost 6 months now and they seem to do just fine on the 5 days on, 2 days off, schedule.

In fact, if you think about it - each of these 4 guys get to hang out with me for 8-9 hours, right by their sides, every work day, all day long. They're always watching me and I play with them sometimes. SOO... I figure these guys get lots more attention than the average betta does in someone's home, and therefore it doesn't really pain me to leave them alone on the weekends that much. :)

It will be just fine to have one left at your work.
I would lock the door, though, if you are nervous about anyone bothering him though.
You would worry all weekend!

I don't keep anything in with them here at work. They're okay alone. Every once in a while I let them look @ each other for some fun, but they're okay all alone.

I had three bettas next to my computer for 8 months, along with a 5g fish tank for 3 months.

I can't see any problems with computers and fish, cos if the radiation is enough to harm a fish, well.. what the hell are we doing sitting in front of computers all day?
