Hi, Do you know if a male betta can go in a tank with cichlids and teatras? i have 4 discus 2 angels and 4 keyholes also 12 black and red phantom tetras?

If any of you have a betta in a tank with the same fish let me know

I would say no you would have problems from all sides with nipping the bettas fins.

Ok Thanks, my discus are the most peaceful fish in the world and so are my angels i understand what your saying! just i think the Bettas are lovely! i might set up my smaller tank and get a pair in there (male and female)

Thanks for the help

don't ever keep a male and female betta together unless it's in an enormous tank (like 70 gallons+ is the only size i've heard it work in)
they're both vicious little fish when faced with another betta and you'll end up with injured fish.
when they're bred (which is a huge operation to undertake and takes a good 6 months of planning at least) they're only in the same tank for a couple of days, and one can easily turn on the other.

its unlikely angels and a betta will get on. never keep a male and female together. You can have 2 males if you spilt the tank or have a group of 5 females in a 10g

The angel fish I would be worried about myself, they do tend to nip on fins.... I have a betta in my community tank right now, and everyone gets along great... But I have owed bettas in the past that would NEVER be ok with other fish (Bettas are so individual some are social, others are killers)…

If you do try to put you Betta in there, I suggest do it on a day you can keep an eye on the tank, and be ready to pull out your betta if need be...

DiscusAngel: imo it is best to begin a project by keeping to the elementary rules. As Summerdragon said, Bettas can vary greatly in personality. But basically Bettas have been bred to be territorial and alone. They do best imo when they are kept alone, except when you have a well planned sorority tank.

I would recommend that you begin your Betta relationship by keeping a single male Betta in the traditional 2.5 + usg tank. Take time to learn the basics about Betta. Then if you wish to expand your Betta experience, do it with some basic knowledge and understanding of the species. Betta is bred to be aggressive and solitary. He is a gorgeous fish that is very personable; he will be attached and dependant on you. He will wiggle for your attention. He has some very individual needs that differ from other fish.

I am going to say no also. I put my Betta in a tank that already had 2 Angelfish and my fiance woke me up the next morning to see my Betta floating in a corner with his fins shredded. Luckily he was still alive so we took him out and put him back in the container we bought him in. Later we got our old 10 gallon tank back up and put him in there. It took about a month for him to recover. He was scared. Whenever we got near the tank he bolted to the bottom, I never saw him eat. Now his fins have grown back and he meets me at the top of the tank when I feed him.

He does have tankmates now. He is a very peacefull Betta. I have 3 ADF's, 7 neon tetras and 5 zebra danios, with him in a bigger tank now.
