As this is my first Betta I thought I'd check whether they are likely to eat tiny foods. I am permanently hatching brine shrimp which I feed to my adult Threadfins and Celebes Rainbowfish and fry. The larger bows won't eat it as it's so small but would a Betta see it? I wondered whether as it was live would it be 'interesting' for him to hunt it or would he not even see it. I don't want to put it in and have him ignore it and rot in the tank as there are no other inhabitants who'll eat it in there.

I only feed hatched brine shrimps to the betta fry as they grow bigger I try to encourage them onto fine crumble fish food and when they get even bigger again then they can have their pick of frozen bloodworms and brine shrimps, betta pellets etc. If you live where I am in the tropics I breed mosquito lava and the bettas just love em. Giving your betta a variety of food keeps them happy and healthy. :good:

I though I'd ask seeing as I have so much of it! So far I've tried him on Tetra flake and Tetra Prima with no interest. He's eaten a few bloodworm that I put in for the frogs but I don't want him to eat nothing but bloodworm. I'll get him some pellet food tomorow and see if he will go for that.

Yes that would be good because I must admit my bettas hate flake won't touch it. Don't be too worried if they don't eat the pellets straight away, they'll probably mouth it at first and spit it out. But after going hungry for a while they will start eating it.

You were right, he rolled it around his mouth a bit and spat it out! My Rainbows went mad for it though. Whilst feeding the threadfins I thought i'd try him on some of their food, ZM 400 microns fry food (very good stuff) and he loved it so at least I know he's getting good nutrition if he eats that.

Oh thats good that he likes the micron fry food but keep trying him on the pellets maybe break them up a bit so he can get the taste for them. They can get quite fussy sometimes and it can be very frustrating. Keep us posted
