my digi camera is so crap at takeing pics of bettas im buying a new one this saturday but i just wanted to know if any of you lot know how many mega pixels a camera needs to take good pic i found one that does 4.0 mega pixels would this be good?
does anyone have a camera that take nice clear pic if so whats it called

thanks for any help

My camera does 4 pixels and I'm quite happy with the results, once I experimented a little (actually a LOT). I went with one with fewer options as I have a non-digital camera that I still use for "serious" photography. The price range for digitals is wide, and the number of options available is huge. The one thing I wish I had with mine that I don't, is an option to turn off the flash. Only a few settings don't automatically use the flash. The setting for motion is NOT one without flash. Since fish move and a flash will reflect off the aquarium, this is inconvenient. I wasn't able to get the angles right to avoid a reflection, but I did get around it by holding my finger over the flash and using the setting for motion. This does give a reddish tint to the photos, but I like the results. I'd post some, but I haven't got that far yet in figuring out the camera. :dunno: By the way, the deciding factor for buying the digital was seeing all the beautiful photos on this web site. I bought the camera before the betta. By the time I got the betta, I had figured out a way to do the photos after erperimenting with the other fish.

the megapixels determines how large of an image will be created when the picture is taken....for example, a 3 megapixel camera can create a picture that is 8.5x11 and you (hopefully) won't see any pixelation if you were to print it. a 4 megapixel camera can be printed on a larger sheet (or displayed in higher resolution on a computer, or can be cropped more without pixelation).... the megapixels really doesn't have to do with the quality of the picture as much as people think (unless you are printing poser-size pictures, of course).... so that being said i would go with at least a 3 mp camera and probably the 4 (just keep in mind the images will have a larger file size as the mp increases, so you'll need larger storage capacity)....i would also buy a camera with the largest OPTICAL zoom that you can (digital zoom is pretty useless)....so get at least a 3x optical zoom and more if you can afford...then read the manual from beginning to end and PRACTICE, or else you will never master the art of picture taking!

the 2 brands i prefer are canon and nikon .... i have a canon sd100 (small and fairly cheap) and a panasonic dmc-fz1 (only 2 megapixel, but with a 12x optical zoom there is no need for cropping  ) ...

hope that helps a little!

thanks very much for all the help the one i was thinking about getting is this
A PRAKTICA 4.2 MEGA PIXEL 4XDIGI ZOOM 16MB 1-6-IN TFT

what ever all that means lol but it looks a good camera i only have £140 to spend on one and thought this one sounded good.
if anyone else know any where in the UK that sells good ones within my price limmet please let me know

thanks
