My female betta is ill i think, her body looks swollen, and her scales are sticking out of her body..whats wrong? and can I treat it or is it a lost cause?

OOOH NOOO, i just read that its probably dropsy...argh now i dont know wot to doooooo, i keep reading all different things and its really confusing...some1 plz help...

Sorry to hear about your betta :(

You do have treatment options, but just know that the survival rate of dropsy is pretty low. BUT... I'm always optimistic with fishes because I intentionally buy sick ones and nurse them back to health.

SO.....
in recent discussions with wuvmybetta, I have been told that colloidal silver can save a fish from just about any catastrophic illness it can get hit with. Even though I've not ever used it for fish (YET, but i fully intend to with my next illness) I would like to have someone give it a shot with dropsy, just because quite honestly - nothing much else that you try is going to work :(

I believe you have to get it at natural foods stores?
Hopefully someone will come along here and let us both know where to get some of this stuff at, but I really think that's your best shot at saving her.

rite..im going to search for some of that, ive only just noticed it today, so hopefully i have some time.....in the meantime wot else should i do, should i removed her from the tank?

dwarf gourami, bala sharks, 2 caes, male fighter temp 80, 30 g

Do you have another tank to put her in?
You'll want to get her out of there ASAP and start the treatment as soon as you can get your hands on some colloidal.

yes i have small bowl which is bout 1g im not sure around that size neways....and ill try and find some of that colloidal, if not....then i just guess ill see wot happens rite? if it becomes to horrible i have my clove oil ready...she still eating and everything thou so it cant be that bad at the moment..is there ne thing else i can do?

WOOOOT i just looked it up on a website and a bottle is $60!!!!!

You can give Maracyn 2 a shot, but I'd say your chances of saving her are exponentially greater with colloidal. M2 is much less expensive and available at most LFS.

It's totally up to you, though.
You'll want to get her into that hospital tank as soon as you can, though.
I'd just take some tank water out and toss it into the 1 gallon bowl so at least the temps are right for her.

I would stay away from tossing any salt into the hospital tank, too, cuz that will only help hold the fluids in her and you don't need her any more puffed up.

good luck!!!

awwww...poor thing she still alive......and in her own little bowl...shes blowing bubbles....... :/
