i just got this betta a few days ago right now the betta started to lose a bit of its tail

it used to be like this

now its like this

does anyone know whats wrong with this betta? it will be appreciated

nope it looks like the fin is rotting away

That looks to me like a really bad fin rot but it's surprising it has deteriorated so much so quickly. What are the perameters of the tank (Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, hardness, temperture) Are there any other fish in the tank with the betta or is it all alone. What is the size of the tank, if you have been able to see, what is the poop color? Has the fish been floating at the top? Is it eating? And lastly how often do you clean the tank. These answers will help to find a main cause to this. Most of the time this is caused by stress, attacks from other fish, and poor water quality so any of thoes things might be the cause.

Heres a message from Deanasue taken from another fin rot treatment thread:

"First, don’t use any meds ending in fix, Melafix, primafix, Betta Fix, etc. They all have tea tree oil in them which can coat the betta’s labrynth organ and suffocate him. Best thing for fin Rot is 75% daily water changes for 7 days along with aquarium salt at 1 teaspoon (dissolved) for every 5 gallons of water in your 1st dose. After this add 1/2 the amount of salt after each 75% daily water change ( 1/2 teaspoon per every 5 gallons). Salt is an astringent to keep bacteria away and reduces stress."
