Hi,

Would a betta be ok in a tank without a light??? (or at least for a while, i.e. a month) Would I be able to see him and his colours ok??? How much is a light and controller???

Many folks have bettas without light. Is it light in the room that he lives? You would best know if he will show off his color without light, he can wait while you find one for him.

yup,

the room is light. I've decided that I am going to make a communal tank first of all (I'm new). Then I'll think about bettas, I really do like 'em!!!

Yes, Bettas do fine in just natural room light, a seperate light just for the tank is mainly for our pleasure so we can see our Bettas better. Good luck with your tanks, keep us updated as to your progress and let us know what you get
