My personal experience was bad. My male betta kept flaring at my male platy. For some reason, I think the betta thought the platy was a female betta. I had a sunset platy, so the fins and coloration were very similar to a female betta.

Though, I think others on these boards had success with that combination.

I have had a male betta in a tank with 12 platies male and female for 2 years and no problem. The betta will like to have some floating plants around and mine loves the platy fry if i dont scoop them quick enough.

I've found that all Bettas react differently to fish. My Betta ,who had never seen another type of fish before, started by attacking the corries he's with but soon forgot about them and now completley ignores them. Just be careful and be ready to yank him out if he persistantly attacks his tank mates, he will probably attack once but only remove if he keeps on doing it or it looks as though the fish he is attacking is getting chomped.

cheers for the reply guys n gals

i also put a little mirror on the side of the tank. He chases the platies then see's himself and flares and ignores the fish for a while.

They seem to be ok :)
