i was wondering what the smallest size tank you could keep 1 is. i did have 1 in with my guppys but it killed to in its first night so i took him back i think there really nice but i dont have much to spend on a tank for just 1 fish

i've been told a gallon tank is enough for 1 betta. i'm not an expert so it might be worth waiting for someone elses answer.

to be honest.. id go for a 14 litre or more.. but really if u dont want to spend money and time on a tank for "just one fish" then i wouldnt bother.. bettas are unique fish with indivual personalities.. they make good pets, but also great friends in some cases.... if u dont wana spend, dont bother buying.

i would like to get one i just aint got the money atm and i aint putting 1 in with my guppies again

thats a good cheap tank for one male betta with a couple of apple snails. I had Fred in there for about 8 months til he got moved to a 90 litre split tank to save space.. he loved it in there.. had a big fake tree root and the 2 plants that came with the tank in there.. bubble nest within a day of having him there.. feeding straight away.. he loved it :) good size for one fish too. and you can get them cheaper if u go to a shop instead of buying on the net.. make sure u get a small heater for it tho if you were going to go for a tank. Only problem with that tank is it doesn;t have a light.

The argued minimum is around 2.5Gal, To give the betta a comfortable, spacious home I'd go with anything larger than a 5Gal money permitting.

As you unfortunatly found out, Bettas aren't really fond of Guppies :( which is a shame because both can be really stunning fish in the aquarium. If you just focus on your Betta for now he should do well.

:good:

5 gallons. That can fit pretty much anywhere and you don't have to buy a brand new tank. Check local classifeds in papers, Ebay ect. I bought my 5 gal betta tank for £5. All I needed to buy was a heater and decor ( the filter is built in ) . Silk plants ( not plastic , they are unsuitable for a bettas delicate fins ) are cheap if you can't afford or don't fancy trying real ones, and only need washing if they get a bit dingy looking.

Seriously, you can set up a basic 5 gal for a fairly low amount of money if you source your materials right.

Cheap/second hand 5 gallon
Silk plants ( as many as you can afford ,enough to have several clumps for the fish to hide in and rest on )
Gravel
Sponge filter
25watt heater.

Looking over my shoulder at the 3 gallon moss tank on the desk...I don't know how anyone can bear to put a betta in anything that small let alone smaller.

I agree with a minimum of 5 Gallons. This will enable you to keep the water a lot more stable, have more room for your fish to swim and also allows you to add decor for your Betta to hide in.
