Hi All,

I've had my Betta now for a couple of months. When I first got him he had a slight case of fin rot which seemed to clear up. But it seems to have come back and leaving his fins a bit ragged at the ends.

I've been doing daily water changes to try and clear his tank up a bit. I've made sure theres no waste food or anything when i've been feeding him to.

So my first question is, should I use medication now to treat it or do something else?

Also if I am getting medication what should I use? I've seen plenty of people recomend 'Jungel Fungus Eliminator', 'Maracyn + Maracyn II' or 'tetracyclin' How ever I can't find any local fish shops that stock any of these near me. I live in the UK, Newcastle. Would it pay buy this online? or are there any decent products I can buy in the UK?

Thanks

could you post a pic? Just want to make sure its fin rot and not natural variation of finnage. Certain tail-types do have "raggedy" looking tails, so it may just be his normal finnage. Especially if waterchanges arent helping (which they do in 90% of fin rot cases).
all the best

It's definately fin rot. The ends are curled over and blackening (well they were when I saw him last weekend).

The fish is a double tail.

His fins started to show improvement over christmas but they were worse last weekend; I'll check him tonight to see if there is any improvement.

My betta had finrot about a year ago (one of the platys had it coming from the petshop... I thought he had a funky looking tail. Reminder to self: Don't get fish with funky looking tails), I treated with eSHa 2000 (do a search on ebay). Thought I was gonna loose the betta, he was in a terrible state... but am pleased to say he's now back to 100%! All his fins grew back beautifully, only difference from now and before is that he's now plump! lol! Greedy-guts he is.
