In my 180 lts tank one of the little cories is really ill (has bad wounds dont know who attaced him)and just about hanging on. As i dont have a hospital tank at the moment I put him in a little floating breeding trap because the other fish were begining to attack him. In the tank there are 4 male blue gouramis which have been really aggressive towards the little fella. Yesterday i noticed that my betta was hanging around the breeding trap. I was worried that he was also being agressive but as the other fish came up to the trap my betta flared at them and chased them away!!!! Its as if he is protecting the cory even if my betta is on the other side of the tank and sees a fish near the trap he darts over to rescue the little cory. Its so sweet to watch just got to hope that he recovers. :-(

Awww, how cute that he is protecting him. I hope your lil' cory gets better.
Keep us posted!

:D bettas are soo nice an so cruil lol you should rename him super man or something like that :p

That is so, so darling

Once, I had a community betta and a gold nugget plec. The plec had such a hard time eating at night because he wasn't pushy, so the other fish would eat his food. Over time the betta and the plec became the best of friends and the betta would actually do night time crowd control much like yours has been doing. It was so cute, he would chase off everyone while the plec ate, loved it

Sadly, I removed the betta after several months because the large tank just wasn't working for him. The plec died less than a week later. It was like my very own twisted & sad episode of "Where the red java fern grows" :(
