I would do this as a poll but it requires 3 questions so I will just ask them.

1) What size tank do you keep your betta/bettas in?

2) Is it filtered?

3) If filtered, what type/size filter do you use?

My first betta has been in a 2.5 gallon mini bow since early January and done fine. The last betta which I got last week is also in a 2.5 but has developed a case of fin rot. The water parameters are fine and where they should be so I'm wondering if the filter and water movement is causing too much stress. Both have Whisper 10 filter which are rated at 90 gph so that is a lot of water movement for a betta, processing the tank about 35 times per hour. Does anyone have anything smaller or is there a good way to slow the water movement through these?

1) My betta's in a 10 gallon tank

2) It's filtered

3) He has an Aqua-Tech filter which isn't really good. It sends off too much current and he is always going by it and flaring at it. It's getting to be a probably. I'm thinking of changing it but I don't know what type of filter would not send so much current.

EDITED because it was the wrong filter name

I am having the same problem with the Whisper 10 filters that came with the 2.5 gallon Mini Bows mine are in. Those things are rated at 90 gallon per hour. It just blows the fish around when they get near the front of it. Here is a link to a smaller filter someone told me about.

i have 3 bettas in the following:

2.5 divided minibow with 2 bettas
2 filters: 1 whisper set to lowest current possible (can't remember the model # but it came with the tank)
1 smallworld filter in the other side of the tank which calico loves to investigate

eclipse 3 with filter, biowheel & heater.

so far all bettas are doing great. the 2 in the mini bow flare at each other when they see each other through the divider but are otherwise happy & come to see me every time i walk near the tank, and the water is crystal clear! water params are right on each time i test -- about once per week.

the betta in the eclipse 3 is also well, rarely flares unless he thinks 1 of the adf's is trying to eat his pellets when they dart to the top for air, but is very happy. he swims around curiously and rests at night in the space between the heater and the tank wall in the back.

I have 3 bettas now.

2 of them are in 2.5G tanks

They're not filtered.
I do have 1 in a 2 G hex tank with an undergravel filter.

They all work out swell.

DOOOOOO PLEASE be cautious of having your betta be blown around by a filter. My little Amos just passed away night before last because I thought it would be a nice idea to upgrade him to a 5G tank with a filter in it. The current stressed him out well...... to death. literally.

my bettas (9) are in tanks from 1-2.5 gallons each. none of them are filtered. i wonder if you could use a sponge filter (powered by an airpump) like people use for their fry tank?

the currents do not stress out any of my 3 bettas because they're all set to the lowest settings possible.

I believe that's what the Smallworld filter is. Basically a sponge that you hook an airstone up to. I believe thay are made by Penn Plax.

I have three bettas in three tanks: two are 2.5g mini-bow tanks with whisper filters at the lowest setting and one is a 1 gallon "Aquatic Gardens Mini-Life Aquarium" exactly like this one: http://www.petco.com/product_info.asp?fami...D+Desk+Top&ct3= This filter I turned on the lowest setting, but because it was blowing poor popeye around. I also cut a little square piece of sponge and stuck it in the return.... and his tank cycled.

BTW- Way off subject, but do you guys think it would be okay to keep some sparkling gouramis and pygmy catfish in the same 1 gallon tank that I put a link to? (No, not in with the betta, on their own.)
