I have a 70 litre fish tank with 7 rummy nose tetras and a small pair of kribs in and I was wondering if a betta could go in with them. Also I know the kris would ideally be in a bigger tank but in the bigger tank they killed almost all my other fish and they seem very happy in the tank. Thanks for the help from Tom

I would not add a betta to this tank for 2 reasons.  Number 1 is this tank is stocked -- actually overstocked for its size.  Number 2 is that most cichlids and bettas do not go well together since they both tend to be aggressive fish.  You have already mentioned that the kribs are really aggressive.

Ok thanks how much is it overstocked and since the kribensis have been in the smaller tank they have not killed anything and I think it's because they feel safer as there is not as many fish in the tank with them and are there are smaller dither fish that you could reccommend so that I could have more than 7 of them in the tank from Tom

No.  You do not need to add anything else to that tank.  That tank is pretty stocked at the moment.

I was asking if I got rid of the 7 rummy tetras what smaller fish could I replace them with so that there can be a bigger shoal in the tank from tom

Tom,

We have discussed with you the fact that the kribs are improperly homed in the 70L, if you were going to rehome ANY fish, they would be the best choice.  Rummys are fine in a 70L, and you could even get a few more, were you to rehome the kribs.

As for adding smaller fish to the tank to go with the kribs, that's just a bad idea.  Smaller fish would be targets for the kribs much more so than the rummys.

Regarding the betta with kribs... as Wildbetta pointed out, they are both rather aggressive and since the kribs have ALREADY gotten aggressive in the past, it would just be asking for trouble.

Please take the advice we are giving and either rehome the kribs, or leave things as they are.  Switching things around will just be a potential trigger for trouble.

Here is the thing...you have an aggressive species in that tank which really needs a bigger tank.  There is no other species of schooling fish to replace the rummy nose tetras that I would recommend for you to get that would allow you to have more fish in that tank.  It really is not feasible.  I am sorry if this is not what you want to hear.
