Betta Tank Filter

Ok so im getting into bettas and i want to make a 10 gallon tank split into 3 sections, i know how im going to split them and everything but i want to know if having an undergravel filter under the whole thing would work. instead of a sponge or power filter.

you just have to remember to have either dividers with holes in them for water circulation or have a tower replacing the water in the middle section... also try to get one with charcol so that it actrually filters and dosent just pull the stuff under the gravel
