One of my males swallowed what looks like a human hair, (I live with two women that shed like maniacs, it looks like my gf's hair) and it's trailing out of his mouth roughly the length of his body.

I noticed after feeding, so i think the hair attached to a brine shrimp and he gobbled it up. He seems okay, a little annoyed by it and clearly trying to get rid of it himself. I managed to trim it a bit but i'm really not sure what to do.

My two options are;
1) wait and see what happens, possibly risking damaging the betta (i have no idea if they can pass hair, if it will get stuck, kill them even)
2) net him, and try and perform some surgery to remove the the hair with some tweezers and force. (im not sure the risks of this, it defiantly seems like it is lodged in his stomach and coming out)

I'm sure worried and freaking out a bit, this is the first time this has ever happened to me, and I can tell it's a rare issue by the lack of posts on the internet.

Any theoretical / anecdotal advice is extremely welcome ASAP!!

i think you should remove it with your hand or somehting, at the end there will be a blob of poop, idk tho i did this with my guppy and it saveed her

best way to do this?
hold him in a net or wet tissue with tank water, and use hand or twezer, if he feels any pain or tries to swallow dont go further. if he feels pain go and let him eat it and poop it out

i tried and he wouldn't let me get to it, I let him back into the tank and he's extremely unhappy :( clamed fins. Almond leaves and stress guard should win him back, but i guess he's gonna have to pass it

It won't pass through him. You need to grab the hair and hold it firmly and let the fish swim away while you try to pull the hair out.

Are you sure? How long do i have before it becomes an issue

Ive looked on the internet and most of what ive read suggests your fish should be ok, just get as much as possible cut away. And atleast with it being hair it wont breakdown into dangerous absorbed bits. Heres a discussion i found....https://www.fishlore.com/aquariumfishforum/threads/is-hair-harmful-for-fish.273078/
