Betta substrate

Is gravel a suitable substrate for a tank with a betta and corys?

It would be fine for your betta, but unless it's very fine gravel, it wont be good for your corys. They are much better off in sand.

I've never heard that it's bad.

I have sand in 2 X 2.5G tanks with bettas. I find it easier to clean.

I don't think so, many have said that they have had no problems with Bettas and Sand. I just recently added sand to one of my betta tanks and he doesn't seem to mind it. It looks nice and you can see better where the food and poop is
