Betta Sorority

I have this 18 gallon tank that is soon going to lose some of it's habitants because I'm selling the baby guppies from my last breed. I will be left with 8 neon tetras and a bottom feeder. Is it possible to create a betta sorority in this tank? I've had previous experience with bettas and they are by far one of my favorite fishes. Since I just got some neon tetras, I don't think i will be able to clear up the tank so soon to make it a cold water tank for goldies so I thought why not bettas.

I would not put bettas with neons. Neons tend to be nippy, and stress bettas since they are fast.moving fish and bright. Sororities also do better in a species only tank or with some bottom dwellers.
 
How about upping your group to 11-12 and getting a pair of honey gourami
 
Also, I hope that isnt going to be permanent for goldies. One fancy goldfish can be alone in a 30g, 2 in a 40g, 3 in a 50g,, etc. They grow big.

Just that we have two beautiful goldies that the fish specialist at the lfs says they are male and female and I would like to breed them. Guess I'll have to wait or get them a smaller pond for them.
Also, can you keep two gouramis? I thought you couldn't???

You can keep two gourami as long as they are not both males.

i have my beta in with cloud tetras and neons. never seen any nipping or harassment from the neons/clouds to the beta. i find that they (the ones i have kept) show more personality and action when in a community tank (with tetras/ shrimp tank). the beta minds his own business and does his own thing
IMO i think it would be better if you went with the beta instead of the gourami. if you went with a gourami check out the powder blue.

It depends on the betta itself.
 
Honeys are very docile and in a pair/trio would be amazing

IMO i think it would be better if you went with the beta instead of the gourami. if you went with a gourami check out the powder blue.

Goldfish breed quite readily in ponds outdoors no need to move them inside 

just make sure there is plenty of hiding places for the fry pondweed etc when they are a little bit bigger you can catch the fry to view in your tank rather than taking the parents out if that's what you mean? p.s where in Portugal are you from? I'm half Portuguese my dad is from Lisbon

I am from Castelo Branco, it's in the center of Portugal. I go to Lisbon quite often tho.

Yes there are so I will need to move them
okay so I just went to the lfs to buy some vesicularia and a tall plant and had an impulse buy and got this beautiful VT betta, will start a journal on it later on when I finish organising the tank
