Betta sitting for a co-worker's daughters...

So I'm Betta sitting for a co-workers twin daughters this week, somehow they think I like these fish and know how to take care of them!?!?! Don't know how they got that idea!
Anyway, check out the lump on this betta, what in the world is this?

Looks like a tumor of some kind... there's one at my local Walmart who has one exactly like that, iridescence and all, on his head.

He had it when he came to ya, right? My guess is that it's just a tumor,as well, and he'll probably live with it for a while, problem free. There's really nothing you can do if that's the case.

If it just popped up it could be parasites. Did you ask them if he had it when they bought him?

What's weird is...it's such a pretty blue.. he's really cute.

Sorry. ) Yes, I think it looks like a tumor or growth of some sort... maybe a cyst. Although, it doesn't look like the surrounding scales are stretched or damaged, which gives me the idea that it's been there a while. I dunno... I just think if it was cripplingly-life-threatening it would be more inflamed.

Yes, it was there when I got him.
I had a dream last night that he died while he was here, and I couldn't find another betta with a tumor to replace him... LOL

My Rom had those on him. Before he died they had spread and he about about 5 or 6 of them...then they atrated to get bigger. I'm not sure if that's what lead to his demise...but I would't rule it out either. I took some pictures and they're around here somewhere..I'll see if I can find them.
