It wasn't until joining here that I learned bettas could be shown. Now I'm really curious, how does a show work? Is there a website where I can see if there is a show near me? I'd really love to see what a Betta show is like.

Here ya go,

Click on shows and events, I didn't see any in AZ but sometimes you've gotta travel. I'm driving 5 hours (10 back and forth) on Sunday to go to an auction and a couple people from my club are driving that far to stay the entire weekend. ;)

Basically, people from all over the world send their fish to a certain destined area (varies and they're hosted by local clubs). They're displayed, classed and judged, then the breeder is awarded show points & awards for their winning fish and their fish are sent home to them or auctioned, and at the end of the year they have a champion for the one who accumulated the most points over the year and a runner up and so on.

in may i will be travelling to lancaster, only 2 hours away, for a betta show at a 100,000 square foot pet store with 500 fish tanks      hopefully ill have some wild abies to show by then.
it is deffinately worth it to travel to the shows tho

That sounds really cool. Maybe if there is ever a show within reasonable driving distance I can go to see one.
