Betta seems to either sit at the top

I have a betta in a 2.5 minibow tank and alot of the time he either sits at the top or goes between plants and sits their. Is this normal since its a new tank?

A lot of bettas like to kind of doss about, especially resting on top of leaves near the top. Kinda like sunbathing I would only worry about it if the fish is disorientated or really subdued.

i would say he's fine... i find mine do a lot of 'sitting' and 'lounging' about between swims. is he cold? probably not. what temp is the water ?

i've read that anything below 75 and they will become listless.... so if you do not have a heater for the tank, i would reccomend it (mine has a small 'heating pad' like one, 25W) or if not, keep a lamp on over the tank all the time.

Well when the tank light is on for awhile it goes to 79. But the weird thing I want to know is why does he swim at the top and only go down sometimes while my other betta swims all over is fish bowl. And the only 25w heater at my lps does not have a thermostat on it and I think it will just keep heating until you unplug it or turn it down.

Out of all my fish, I have some that zip around their tank like crazed madmen, some that just kind of glide around, and some that I swear are lazy. They'll just sit on the bottom or on a leaf until it's eating time then they kind if mosey up to get their food. I think it all depends on the personality of the fish. None of my bettas have a heater in their tank except the girly tank so I believe that it is just the individual personalities. If you think about it, all of us know someone who just cannot sit still or someone who never wants to go out, just stays at home in front of TV. As long as he's eating, pooing, etc. he is fine. I think that their little fishy personalities adds to their charm.
