No, not a form of torture, I mean a shelf to put the betta tanks on. I want a shelfy thing under my bed for my betta tanks so I can get rig of my desk and get a 'proper' tank.... At the moment, I've got 13, so lets just make it a nice round number at 15, I don't mind making up the number :p Working it out spacing wise, and depending on the containers used, each shelf would need to hold somewhere in the region of 15g, which is about... 45kg of water, with lets say 1kg of decoration per shelf (possibly won't bother with substrate). My question is, can commercially available shelves hold this sort of weight, if yes, what sort and where from? Or is it cheaper to DIY it?

Have you tried looking at stageing/ garage shelving units either plastic or galvanised available from all good DIY stores. they could be painted I'm sure to match your decor. Alternatively ask John Nicholson on this forum if he can re-post his images of his daughters betta shelving.

I'm long past being bothered about decor... So I take it most heavy-duty shelves should be able to handle the load OK? I've currently got 3 1.5g's on each shelf of my bookcase, but the father doesn't like that... No worse than having 50 1kg books on there...
