It is with great sadness that I must report my 1 and only male betta passed away today of fin rot most likely. :-(

I got the male betta as a gift from my nieces after they saw I have a fish theme bathroom. When I got the fish I had no clue how to take care of fish. That was about 5 months ago. Since then I'm learned a lot more about fishes and have a 10 gal planted tank with corries.

Unfortunely, I was never able to really take care of the betta. He started off in a small .5 gal tank that I got at wal-mart, moved him into the 10 gal after it was done cycling but he did not get along with the corries or the fact that the water moved around so much, so I bought him a 2.5 gal tank where he did not seem to like the live plants.

Took those out and put some fake ones but it did not like those either and was constanlty not eating when the filter was on or off even AT LOW SPEEDS! Bought him some frozen blood worms thinking he would love those but he never really ate the worms. He got popye-eyes about a month ago and after recovering from that he seemed okay until yesterday when I notice he was a bit paler than usual. Not to mention his back fins seemed like they were ripped. So I added metaflix (spelled wrong) hoping that would help.

But alas this afternoon when I cam back from work he was on the bottom of the tank under the fake plant with his eyes closed. :-(

I guess I just wanted to talk about this with anyone to help ease the pain of lossing him.

I know exactly how you feel. I lost the first betta I ever bought (well, he was one of a pair) last month after almost two years of loving him, and it killed me. I don't care what anyone says. It is possible to love your bettas like you love your other pets. I'm so sorry!

I'm sorry for your loss. I know how difficult it is to lose one of these little guys. You did the best you could for him, and that's all he could have asked for.

Thanks all. I'm not ready to get another Betta but will have to eventually because when my niece comes for x-mass I'm sure she will be askng about it.

For now I'll continue to enjoy my 4 corries in their very big 10gal tank and remember those that have past away..
