hey all, i got my imbellis pair and my melano geno pair today! :D all are fine but im unsure as to what i should put in the imbellis tank. i read dark gravel but what should i decorate with? and they are quite small and petite so a 2.5 should be good for a pair to live in correct? i need to go out this weekend and buy some more tanks. :D very pretty tho wish i had a digi cam to show you guys. i got em an hour ago and they colored up for me :D :p

congrats,Sam. You better ask bkk what size tank for 2 imbellis,he has some. I would think you need something bigger than a 2.5

very cool slamster :D
i think a 5 gallon would be more suitable for a pair. lots of cover is needed as well so get some floating plants if you don't already have some. ;)

ok, they are very small compared to one of kellys orange females and the 2 imbellis are extremely stressed still i am gonna put them in my planted 2.5 with some gravel for now maybe it will cheer them up. the melanos are stressed out too, way worse then the fish from kelly. :dunno:

im confused  my black hm male is around 7 months old yet he is still only about 1.5 inches not including tail very small. the female is normal yet he says she isnt a ct yet she has double rays like wuvs ct mgs. and according to bkk we may have related fish wich may or may not be true imbellis. hmmmmm

still veery pretty tho :D

i actually wrote kathy waters an email yesterday asking some questions about the imbellis, before i could send it though, my computer froze and i lost what i had written. :grr: i'll try again maybe today. from how you described your fish to me slamster, they sound just like my fish. it's frustrating because in a lot of ways, they have imbellis qualities to them, the only issue i have with them is the head shape. from all the information and pics and even posting pics and a description on siamensis.org (thai freshwater fish conservation society) no one could say with authority that yes, they were purebred "wildtype" imbellis. the head shape is just too wrong. i really wish breeders who sell their fish would put a little thought into adding some documentation along with the fish. is it too much to ask the breeding history and where the fish originated from? there is the possibility that they are pure and not a deformaty that has been continued by breeding but unless i get some answers from someone i will never breed my trio, sad seeing as i spend $50 on them. :/

that stinks, have yours gotten the full black coloring? mine are still kind of faded. let me know if you find out anytihng. but i have another wierd thing. rich christman swears the fish he sent me have no hint of ct in them anywhere throughout the line including jim sonniers part of it yet the female he sent me is distinctly a double ray crowntail. the rays look exactly like kelly's female mg cts. there is no way they arent cts. i will post what he wrote.

#1The Blacks hatched 3/27/04. They are brother and sister. What you see in the females fins is very common and is not really a sign of CT. None of the males in the spawn show any CT at all. If you get the box back to me asap I should be able to ship out one more time before I stop shipping because of the weather.

fish came today! all are well. few questions: how old is the melano male and are the melanos siblings?i noticed that the female has a good bit of CT in her.
#2There has been no CT seen is this line for 3+ generations. Of about 30 males there were zero fish that even showed a tiny bit of fringe fin. If you go to Jim Sonnier's web site and look over his "double Blacks" you will see the last female he used had the same "look" to the fins, but he doesn't mention anything about getting any CT either. The breeders he used were brother/sister to the breeders I used. If you look at last year spawns on his web site you will see the breeders he used that produced the parents I used to your fish.

are you sure because the female is deffinately a double ray crowntail. still very pretty. i will try to get the box back out tomorrow. Thanx.

and bkk the imbellis' heads are just kinda blunt looking right? they would be more pointed if they were true. have you looked into other strains of imbellis??

see, thats why it would be nice to know more about their lineage. if by chance they are a different variation of imbellis native to say malaysia as opposed to thailand it would explain things wouldn't it? ;)

if anyone wonders what i'm yammering about these two pics should explain. the first pic is more indicative of actual colour. that head though....

theres a small similarity in the 2 heads but the second one has a more distinct kinda half circle, there is a big difference in color tail shape and looks like size too. still unsure why he claims the female melano who is supposedly an hm without a trace of ct is a double ray ct. :dunno:

well bkk im sry to say it but the imbellis colored up today and they look alotttttttt more like the true thing. and now that i look closely the heads are alittle more pointed, so maybe ours are just special? id still like to know about the linneage tho. :D

I dont get it guys, i did some linneage research to ccheck rich christmans information about no ct in the lines and jim sonnier confirmed it, if this is true then why do i have a double ray ct female that is related to a melano hm male? it makes no sense. the only thing i can do is email connie emery to see if maybe her part of the line involved any ct. do any of you have any ideas? its quite frustrating  :(
