I've had a betta for about a month now and he lives in a 20-gal with some little zebra danios. There are little round spots all over the inside of the glass. I'm guessing they're nose prints from the betta, but I've never actually seen him kiss the glass. The spots are too big to have been made by the zebras. Is this normal behavior or just plain weird? He seems happy and swims all over and has lots of silk plants. so I don't think he's trying to get out. Any ideas?

I like your strait jacket idea. Maybe I'll try putting in a tiny wash cloth and see if my betta will clean the glass.

Don't think it's snails because I've never bought them specifically and never had real plants. It could be algae, but I've never seen algae in little perfectly round spots before. Whatever it is, it wipes right off. It looks a lot like my kitty's nose prints, except it's on the inside of the tank. Would my betta flare at his reflection and touch the glass? Could be my betta just likes to mess with my mind. He definitely has a lot of personality.

But he shouldn't be covered in anything that would actually leave a print -_- I have one tank that gets odd little circles on the inside...but sure enough I tried to get pics for you and the spots won't show up. Nice of them to always get in the way of my perfect shot when I least want them to though :sly: Anyway, I always assumed they were algae, although no other tanks on that row get them...

"I always assumed they were algae, although no other tanks on that row get them..." (Sorry, can't quite figure out the quoting thing)
Maybe it's the texture of the tank's material?

My 80 gallon has perfectly round little algae formations that could be mistaken for nose prints.... if anything even remotely that small were in that tank
They only develop in that tank, and I'm assuming it's because the 80 gallon is right in front of a window :dunno:

Thanks for all your help. It's probably algae, nothing else makes much sense. I couldn't get a picture. You can just see the smudges if you look at an angle to the light. I'll just keep wiping it off. As long as the fish seem healthy and happy, I guess that's all that matters. I'm really enjoying my betta. Never dreamed he'd turn out to be so energetic when I saw him in the dixie cup at the store.
