Hi

My male betta ( his name is Flame) keeps lying down on the gravel? He is in a 64L tank, plenty of real plants, places to sleep and rest. Temp is 78 and water stats are good. He seems totally happy in himself, is eating and responding to my tap and swimming around normally - he has been in this tank for about a month now (moved him from a 48l)

But today he has been lying on the bottom for short spells. The he just gets of and swims around again normally for a couple of hours before he does it again.

Is this something that they do and I just haven't noticed before? (although the amount of time I spend watching him I think I would have noticed :))
or should I be concerned?

Thanks

Oh meant to add - he looks totally normal - no signs of anything being wrong with him.

one of mine does that all the time. he's a major sulker and agoraphobic!

I'd say normal, but just keep an eye for anything else :good:

Yes it's quite normal considering his otherwise good health. The longer finned types tend to do it more as they tire more easily from dragging the long fins about, which do hinder swimming for them. Plakats are usually more active and lie about a lot less since they swim a lot better than the very fancy sorts.

mine does this every day. in the morning before i feed he will be swimming around, then after i feed he is pretty active for about 3 hours, then he will lay around, sometimes he will be laying almost on his side, scared me the first few times he did this, but he has been doing it for about 4 months now so i guess its no big deal

Yeah mine does that too sometimes. I am a newbie, so when I saw him doing that I thought he was dead! I had to call my boyfriend because I didn't know what was wrong with him. Turns out, he was just relaxing. He was totally fine!

Very normal some bettas are natrualy lazy some hiper
