Okay this is weird...I moved Purpley from a divided 2.5 gal to a 1 gal tank for my daughter's room. He did great then today he would take a pellet in his mouth and spit it out. Try a couple of times then give up. His lips look like he is puckering up. I took a flashlight to him and I see no fungus or any signs of velvet. He is normally a piggy so I am not sure what to think. He had no problem eating bloodworms earlier. His fins are not clamped, no other signs of illness. He is hanging towards the bottom and not as interactive with me as he was in the divided tank.

Any ideas what this could be?

He's probably still getting adjusted to his new environment, so he might not be that hungry. Have you changed food recently? Maybe it's too big for him. As for the 'puckered' mouth, maybe he ran into something... like, maybe he's still getting used to the boundaries of his new tank. -_-

Thanks everyone. The hikari pellets are the same...those tiny round balls.

I think he cut his mouth on the tweezers I use to feed bloodworms. If he did cut his mouth it will heal up. I put aquarium salt and some jungle fungus clear in his tank to prevent a secondary infection in the cut.

I found some little plastic tweezers at Walmart by the contact lens supplies that I use for feeding for that very reason. The tweezers themselves are plastic and then they have a soft rubber sheath over the tips of the tweezers. They are made to hold contact lenses without tearing them, so I thought they'd be perfect for our bettas tender little mouths. :)

awesome eudielynn...thanks for the tip!!!
